A very warm welcometo our brilliant school!

Euxton Church of England Primary School Homepage

A very warm welcome to Euxton Church of England Primary School. On behalf of all the children, staff and governors I’d like to welcome you to our website.

I am very proud to be Headteacher of Euxton CE Primary School. It is so important to get primary education right. From an early age, children need to have a real love of learning, something which we aim to give all of our children from the very start of their school life. Each child must be given every opportunity to flourish, know that they are safe, unique, special and valued. At Euxton CE we provide a warm, happy and safe environment where children are guided to achieve their very best. Mrs Mairi Ash, Headteacher.

Latest BlogYear 3 Friday Blog - 09/05/25

Dear parents, Welcome to the Year 3 Friday blog! Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more. Homework Reading- Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your childevery night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them. Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this half term, there will be a list of 12 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz each Thursday will then consist of 8 of these words as well as 2 words the children have previously learned. As homework, each child should still log into SpellingFrame and complete this weeks test using the link below. Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the childrens school journeys and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games. We will also have a times tables quiz each week. Next week, we will test a mixture of the 3 and 4 times tables. I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible. If you are struggling to find time to log in to SpellingFrame or TT Rockstars on a device, please find alternative ways of practising our weekly spellings and times tables, such as verbal tests/chanting in the car, or using one of the attached spelling strategies. An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog. Our learning this week in Year 3 English This week in English, we have been planning our own versions of the wonderful smells play. Each child has created a new setting for their play to take place and two new characters. We will use these next week to write a new scene for our plays. Maths This week, we have been learning about multiplication. We have used the grid method to solve lots of different multiplication problems and even had a go at finding some missing numbers in grid methods. See if you can work out the missing numbers in this problem. RE In RE this half term, our big question is 'How does Jesus change lives?'. This week, we have learned about Zacchaeus; a tax collector who met Jesus and decided to change his ways. He vowed to give half his money to the poor and to pay back anyone he had cheated 4 times. VE Day On Thursday, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE day in school. We recieved a letter from a war veteran about his experiences of the second world war, had a picnic lunch on the field, made hats and flags, watched Year 5 perform as a marching band on the playground, and sang together in the hall. Thank you to everyone who brought/sent in items and letters for the class to look at. Have a fantastic weekend! The Year 3 team

Mrs. Macdonald (our Geography boffin) has had a great idea! To make sure our knowledge of the world is solid, each class will be spotlighting a different country in Europe. For this term, we have the country Iceland (perfect, as it links with our new English unit and history topic!) Each week, we will find and share a new fact on the blog... Its tectonic plates are visible! Yes! Think back to our last geography topic on 'Natural Disasters'. Iceland, is one of only a few destinations across the globe where you can easily see two tectonic plates drifting apart above sea level. Iceland is considered geologically active, with approximately 130 volcanic mountains, about 30 of which are still active today. Even the slightest change in the country's geology could awaken some of the most dormant volcanoes. Currently, one volcanic eruption occurs every four to five years, on average. Maths Problem of the Week Each week, a new maths problem will appear on the blog... Can you solve it? The answers will be posted in next week's blog! Previous week's answers... 2kg of strawberries = £8.80 750g of cherries = £10.50 Total = £19.30 Our learning this week in Year 4 English What is a folktale? A traditional story that people of a particular region or group repeat among themselves. I wonder how the king felt at the beginning of the story as he sent the wizard to assess Iceland's defenses... Was he excited about what he could conquer? Was he nervous about the resistance he might meet? Was he arrogant, simply waiting for the nod to invade? How did he feel at the end of the story, after the wizard delivered his findings? With a dragon, a giant, a vulture and a bull, imagine his thoughts when he realised his invasion would never happen. We used our inference skills to imagine the thoughts that would be going through King Harald's head, and the emotions he might be feeling! Maths The joys of 'Maths Mastery' is that you learn a variety of different methods. Once you have learnt them, you are free to choose the method you prefer in future! This week, we have been looking at adding and subtracting decimal numbers, using partitioning, rather than a column method. I think if we are being honest, most of us prefer the idea of column addition, purely as we actually found it quicker, and easier! It always good to learn other methods, just in case! VE Day Yesterday, we celebrated VE Day, and what a fantastic day it was! We started off by learning all about Germany's rapid expansion across Europe, before diving into D-Day, and the huge impact it had on the end of the war. We made Union Flags, and Winston Churchill-style bowler hats, eating our picnic on the field with pride! Safeguarding - morning routine If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door/ KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning. If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff, you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe. Have a fantastic weekend! The Year 4 team
