Year 5 Friday blog - 28th June 2024

Date: 28th Jun 2024 @ 12:47pm

Dear parents,

This week we have been working really hard on our singing and dancing skills for our production next week.  The children have been absolute super stars and we hope you will be able to join us for one of the performances on Thursday 4th July.

Our Week

In English we have continued to read the Hobbit and have been working hard on an extended piece of writing based on Smaug and Bilbo's first meeting.

In Maths we have been using chunking in division and the children have impressed us with their resilience in solving some tricky questions with and without remainders.

In Geography we have been learning about the rivers of Europe, including the Thames in London.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please ensure your child is still reading every night and to make note of this in their reading records.

Spellings - Spellings are from the Statutory word list.  Don't forget to login to SpellingFrame to practise.  Your  new test day is Thursday.

Here is a copy of this weeks words:

Times table / Division facts - Times tables are vital to accessing other concepts in maths.  It is therefore extremely important we keep practising these weekly.  Please access TTRS at least 3 times per week to keep this knowledge sharp.  Your new test day is Thursday.

Finally, as we move into nicer weather and sunshine please take a moment to read our sun safety information.

Have a wonderful weekend,
