Reception Blog 07.02.2025
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 8:02am
Dear Parents,
Team Points.
Each child in school is in one of our teams, Air, Earth, Fire or Water. Every day the children earn team points for good work, effort, attitude and behaviour. The team points are added up from the whole school.
EARTH are the winning team this half term. They will receive their reward on Monday afternoon. Well done everyone!
Our story this week has been 'Tell me a Dragon'. We explored new vocabulary, enjoyed the amazing illustrations and descriptions, and then created our very own dragons!
Literacy:
We painted our own Dragon and then wrote a description.
Maths:
We continued our learning about measuring and used the balance scales to investigate heavier and lighter.
This weeks lollystick challenges:
Our lollystick challenges have included painting our own dragon, exploring the different kinds of dragons in books and in the curiosity cube and independently completed an interactive game about measuring in the interactive white board.

Children's Mental Health Week 3-9th February
This week has been Children's Mental Health Week. The theme for 2025 is 'KNOW YOURSELF, GROW YOURSELF'. We have spent time together exploring and discussing our emotions and related them to events in our lives.
Phonics Homework
Please find the Phase 3 weekly sheets for this half term in the files section at the bottom of this blog. We have revisited week 4 Spring 1 in class this week. Use the sheet however it works for you. Some people may want to print it out or just use the information to say the phoneme, write the grapheme and play games thinking about things that start with that sound.
PLEASE continue to practise the new sounds each week with your child.
Show and Tell
Thankyou for your continued support with this. Next week we will be learning about light and dark. The children can bring in something about this topic..
As always they can bring something in or send a photo via Seesaw.
Reading Books
Please ensure they are sent in every day as we do have reading helpers who can also listen to child in School. The ideal is a little time spent every night looking at the book together and enjoying it!
Your child will have 2 reading books tonight they will be changed on Thursday next week.
Library Books
Library books will be coming home tonight.
Please return by Wednesday each week ready to be changed on Friday.
Reminders
- Please make sure hair is tied up for PE (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
- Please help your child to practise zipping up their own coat, now the weather is getting colder and wetter.
- Please ensure all your child's clothes are named. Could you also check that you haven't ended up with anybody elses clothes as we still have a couple of cardigans missing!
- If your child needs to use lip balm could you please send it in in a named bag for the teachers to look after and oversee them putting it on.
Please note that our Phonics Stay and Play session planned for Thursday 6th February has had to be rearranged.
It will now be on Thursday 27th March 2.00pm - 3.15pm.
Have a lovely weekend,
From
Ms Lucas, Mrs Critchley and Mrs Gifford.
