Y4 Friday Blog - 20/9/24
Date: 18th Sep 2024 @ 9:28am
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Information Update
A few children and parents have been asking about Y4 swimming. PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday, up until the February Half Term. After that, one of the PE lessons will then become a swimming lesson.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 26th September (see the files section on our Year 4 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1).
|
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables, up to 12x12. For the Autumn Term, 7s, 9s and 12s will be practised in class, however any practice at home, no matter how small, will hugely benefit the children.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
We have started looking at speech puncuation this week, particuarly the use of inverted commas and correct use of the reporting clause.
Y4 have moved from basic speech puncuation - "What are you doing?" asked Tranio.
To more advanced speech - "What are you doing?" asked Tranio, a smile spreading across his face.
And finally, to some greater depth style speech - "What are you doing?" asked Tranio, a smile spreading across his face, "you look like you have a plan!"
Maths
Maths has included some really tricky measuring this week! We have been looking at measuring a straight line to the nearest millimetre. No only this, but we have then looked at finding missing lengths using addition or subtraction!
Computing
Carrying on with our E-Safety topic, Y4 tested out our school filter - something in place to make sure we are all safe online. Thankfully, we found out Facebook, TikTok and other social media platforms are blocked in school, and all children know to tell a trusted adult if anything on the computer makes them feel uncomfortable.

Have a fantastic weekend!
