Y4 Friday Blog - 11/10/24
Date: 9th Oct 2024 @ 8:17am
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Hello Yellow
On World Mental Health Day, we wore yellow clothing and accessories to school, along with thousands of others across the UK. Thank you for helping us raise money for the Young Minds charity, showing young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.
We stand brighter, together.
Some wellbeing activities to try at home:
Please see the Doodle Boy doodle sheet and the Wellbeing Bingo activity sheet on the Files to Download section on our class page.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 17th October (see the files section on our Year 4 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1).
|
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables, up to 12x12. For the Autumn Term, 7s, 9s and 12s will be practised in class, however any practice at home, no matter how small, will hugely benefit the children.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
It's important that you use the latest versions of the app and website to ensure you receive the most secure, feature-rich and enjoyable experience of Times Tables Rock Stars.
Solution - if you're playing at home
If using the website at home, please ask visit play.ttrockstars.com/reset to load the latest version in your device's browser. Otherwise update the Times Tables Rock Stars app from the app store.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
Our new English unit is 'non-chronological report writing' - we have started by looking at a selection of reports, identifying the key features for when we write our own. Non-chronological reports need to have a title, sub-headings, pictures with captions, facts and importantly, no opinions!
Maths
In maths, we have been using the formal written method, to solve 4-digit addition and subtraction questions. Some of them were nice and easy; some of them had a singular exchange; some of them had multiple exchanges in the same question!
Wellbeing
It has been a fantastic Wellbeing Week in Y4. Starting off with Mrs. Wiles, we made cookies in a class, not just Y4, but all different year groups too. We decorated the cookies and we were even allowed to eat them at the end - yum! With Mr. Astle, we got all the PE equipment out in the hall, and we were allowed to choose which piece we wanted to use. There was space for gymnastics, ropes to climb, benches to balance on and the climbing frame with monkey bars! We also relaxed with some mindfulness colouring, which allowed us to relax and chill, with some music in the background.
Have a look at our gallery to see some of the photographs taken in Year 4.
Have a fantastic weekend!
