Y4 Friday Blog - 20/12/24
Date: 18th Dec 2024 @ 8:09am
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed when completed. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 19th December (see the files section on our Year 4 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 2).

In Year 4, the Statutory Multiplication Check must be completed before the 14th June, and any help you can provide at home would massively benefit your child. Times tables tests are now available in class for any child who wants to take one home for additional homework, and each week, I will attach a new test to the blog, if you would rather print it off at home.
If you need any additional information about the MTC, please don't hesitate to come and ask. Additionally, information can be found by following this link. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/multiplication-tables-check
Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables, up to 12x12. For the Autumn Term, 7s, 9s and 12s will be practised in class, however any practice at home, no matter how small, will hugely benefit the children.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
It's important that you use the latest versions of the app and website to ensure you receive the most secure, feature-rich and enjoyable experience of Times Tables Rock Stars.
Solution - if you're playing at home
If using the website at home, please ask visit play.ttrockstars.com/reset to load the latest version in your device's browser. Otherwise update the Times Tables Rock Stars app from the app store.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
We have now all written, edited, improved and published our finished pieces of independent writing!
The Painter's Daughter stories look absolutely incredible, and I can't wait to read them over the Christmas holidays!!!
History
To finish off our topic on The Romans, and what they brought to Britain, we created a 2-page spread, identifying everything we have learnt in the last 7 weeks. There were paragraphs linked to Roman roads, Roman houses, Roman punishments, and even how their gods helped name our solar system! What a great unit of work!
Carols for Christmas!
Well done to both Y3 and Y4 for finishing off the Grandparents' Coffee Morning with a bang. Beautiful singing of 'Jingle Bells' and 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' was heard throughout the school, with grandparents adding their voices too.
Christmas Round-up!
It has been a mad-busy week to end the term! On Monday, we made our on Christingle, and learned how it sybolises Christmas. Tuesday was Christmas Party Day, where we went into the hall to play: 'Corners', 'Pass the Parcel' and 'Musical Statues' - we also made our own Christmas Lanterns! On Wednesday and Thursday, we sung carols in the hall, followed by Friday Toy Day, with a Christmas film on in the background.
What a great way to finish the year!
Have a look at our gallery to see some of the photographs taken in Year 4.
Have a fantastic Christmas break!
See you all in 2025!
