Y4 Friday Blog - 22/11/24
Date: 20th Nov 2024 @ 3:51pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Important Information
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 28th November (see the files section on our Year 4 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 2).

In Year 4, the Statutory Multiplication Check must be completed before the 14th June, and any help you can provide at home would massively benefit your child. Times tables tests are now available in class for any child who wants to take one home for additional homework, and each week, I will attach a new test to the blog, if you would rather print off at home.
If you need any additional information about the MTC, please don't hesitate to come and ask. Additionally, information can be found by following this link. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/multiplication-tables-check
Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables, up to 12x12. For the Autumn Term, 7s, 9s and 12s will be practised in class, however any practice at home, no matter how small, will hugely benefit the children.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
It's important that you use the latest versions of the app and website to ensure you receive the most secure, feature-rich and enjoyable experience of Times Tables Rock Stars.
Solution - if you're playing at home
If using the website at home, please ask visit play.ttrockstars.com/reset to load the latest version in your device's browser. Otherwise update the Times Tables Rock Stars app from the app store.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
We have started our modelled write this week, using The Firework-Maker's Daughter as a model. Wow! Some of the introductions have been absolutely amazing! There has been a variety of sentence structures, alongside correctly punctuated phrases, and even some correctly punctuated speech. Let's see how they can be improved even more, next week!
Maths
Maths this week has focussed on time, and in particular, converting between 12hr and 24hr clocks. It is a very difficult subject to wrap your head around if you are not confident telling the time, so make sure you practise as much as you can at home!
Christmas Toy Appeal
I am very proud to say that Carson has arranged for a gift collection at school for Barnardo's Children's Charity. It is supported by Cotton Court in Preston, and is something Carson feels very passionate about. The aim of this appeal is to make sure every child and young person in Lancashire has a gift to open on Christmas morning. To get involved, you can bring an unwrapped gift to the school office on or by Monday 16th December. These gifts can be suitable for children, teenagers or young adults. As always, thank you for your generosity and thank you to Carson who promoted this appeal.

Have a fantastic weekend!
