Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Information Update
A few children and parents have been asking about Y4 swimming. PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday, up until the February Half Term. After that, one of the PE lessons will then become a swimming lesson.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 3rd October (see the files section on our Year 4 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1).

Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables, up to 12x12. For the Autumn Term, 7s, 9s and 12s will be practised in class, however any practice at home, no matter how small, will hugely benefit the children.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
We have started our modelled write this week, with the story of Escape from Pompeii as our guide. The quality of the language used, and the vocabulary, has been absolutely incredible! Add that to the correct use of our grammar focuses (inverted commas and adverbial phrases) and we have got some quality pieces of work!

Maths
Maths has been hard this week, looking at finding missing sides of a compound shape, before finding the perimetre. It was not easy, but we showed determination and resilience to get it completed!
