Welcome to the Year 4 Blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below. Log in details for Spelling Frame or TT Rock Stars can be found on the inside cover of your child's Reading Record book.

Lent

It isn't just about giving something up for Lent.
Lent represents turning away from temptations.

If something, or someone, has upset you, it is so easy to say something, or do something, which you might regret later.
Resist that temptation, and do the right thing.

During Lent, we are encouraging random acts of kindness - something which will make your day, and someone else's day, just that little bit better!
Each week, an example of this will be posted on the blog!

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"

Please note that reading books will be changed when completed. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.

Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 3rd April

Geography Fact of the Week!

Capture.JPG

Mrs. Macdonald (our Geography boffin) has had a great idea! To make sure our knowledge of the world is solid, each class will be spotlighting a different country in Europe. We have Denmark!

Each week, we will find and share a new fact on the blog...

Famous tourist attractions!

Capture(2).JPG

In Copenhagen, The Little Mermaid Statue is one of the country's most iconic tourist attractions!

Unveiled on 23 August 1913, The Little Mermaid was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen. The sculpture is made of bronze and granite and sits in the water at Langelinie Pier.

It was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairytale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land.

Despite all of this, The Little Mermaid Statue is considered to be the second most disappointing tourist attraction in Europe, sitting only behind a very strange statue of a little boy in Brussels!

Maths Problem of the Week

Each week, a new maths problem will appear on the blog... Can you solve it?

The answers will be posted in next week's blog!

Previous week's answers...

A) There are 60 eggs in total, and 18 have been used. This leaves a fraction of 42/60 remaining, or 7/10

Assessment Week!

It is that time again! The time for our end of term assessments...

As usual, Year 4 have taken on the tests like pros! There have been no tears, no worries, nothing but confidence, determination and resilience.

They have really done Euxton proud, and have shown nothing but the attitude of 'Do The Best You Can'

Easter Worship

With only one week to go until the Easter Worship, practice has been ramping up! The Y4 readings are loud and clear; the Y3 acting is confident and precise; the singing is absolutely wonderful... For anyone coming next week, you are going to love it!

Safeguarding - morning routine

If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door/  KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning. If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff, you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe.

Have a fantastic weekend!
