Y4 Friday Blog - 6/12/24
Date: 4th Dec 2024 @ 3:54pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Information Update
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed when completed. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 12th December (see the files section on our Year 4 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 2).

In Year 4, the Statutory Multiplication Check must be completed before the 14th June, and any help you can provide at home would massively benefit your child. Times tables tests are now available in class for any child who wants to take one home for additional homework, and each week, I will attach a new test to the blog, if you would rather print it off at home.
If you need any additional information about the MTC, please don't hesitate to come and ask. Additionally, information can be found by following this link. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/multiplication-tables-check
Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables, up to 12x12. For the Autumn Term, 7s, 9s and 12s will be practised in class, however any practice at home, no matter how small, will hugely benefit the children.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
It's important that you use the latest versions of the app and website to ensure you receive the most secure, feature-rich and enjoyable experience of Times Tables Rock Stars.
Solution - if you're playing at home
If using the website at home, please ask visit play.ttrockstars.com/reset to load the latest version in your device's browser. Otherwise update the Times Tables Rock Stars app from the app store.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
We have started our independent writing, and the stories have got off to an amazing start! Using ideas from the original modelled write, alongside our own pieces of writing, we are starting to put together something special. However, to ensure it is an independent write, something had to change - Lalchand is no longer a firework-maker, he is a painter. Let's see how they look next week!
Maths
As we have finished our Red Rose booklets, we are now consolidating our learning, looking back at areas which might need more practise. We have been looking at how to multiply and divide any number, both integer and decimal, by 10 and 100.
Science
In Science, we had to find clues hidden around the room, creating our very own Escape Room! It was great fun and luckily, we did manage to get out of the classroom so we could go home... Phew!
Have a look at our gallery to see some of the photographs taken in Year 4.
Have a fantastic weekend!
