Year 1 Friday Blog - 11.10.24
Date: 9th Oct 2024 @ 3:24pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, our weekly spellings, reminders and lots more!
Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school.
Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key comprehension skills. If your child is struggling to read a word, encourage them to use their phonics fingers to segment and sound it out. Can they spot any digraphs? (2 letters, 1 sound). Once they have segmented the word, ask them to blend it together.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Phonics & Spellings
Everyone has been working super hard on their spellings and I would love to see how you learn your spellings at home. Please share any work / pictures / games the children do at home to practise their spellings. Emails can be sent to [email protected] |
Thank you to those who have shared pictures this week.
We would love to share even more next week. |
There is no spelling quiz next week but please continue to practise our new sounds and tricky words. Please look at our class page for additional sentences, these provide excellent opportunities to apply phonic knowledge.
Wellbeing Week
The children have made me so proud during Wellbeing Week. They were put into groups with children from each year group and enjoyed a carousel of activities set out in different areas of the school. Each child enjoyed decorating a biscuit, making a poster using the PicCollage app, sharing books with a partner, joining in with mindfulness and circle time sessions, as well as playing games using the parachute. The yoga session with Miss Rebecca was also a huge hit with the children, the focus being on taking 'animal breaths' to help with relaxation. Getting the large apparatus out in the PE session on Wednesday was also a huge success, with all children having the chance to sample the climbing frame at their own pace.
Take a look at our gallery to see what we have been up to!
Hello Yellow
On World Mental Health Day, we wore yellow clothing and accessories to school, along with thousands of others across the UK. Thank you for helping us raise money for the Young Minds charity, showing young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.
We stand brighter, together.
Some wellbeing activities to try at home:
Please see the Doodle Boy doodle sheet and the Wellbeing Bingo activity sheet on the Files to Download section at the bottom of this blog.
Show and Tell
To help the children with the transition to Year 1 and to provide them with time to develop their communicaiton skills, show and tell will now happen on a Friday. Please encourage the children to bring things in that is related to our learning.
Have a fantastic weekend.
