Year 1 Friday Blog - 13.12.24
Date: 23rd Oct 2024 @ 10:44am
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!
Only 1 more week until the Christmas break!
Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key comprehension skills. If your child is struggling to read a word, encourage them to use their phonics fingers to segment and sound it out. Can they spot any digraphs? (2 letters, 1 sound). Once they have segmented the word, ask them to blend it together.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Following a phonices assessment this week, there will be a sheet of sounds for your children to practise along with their reading books.
Pantomime Trip
We all thoroughly enjoyed our whole school trip to the pantomime to see Cinderella on Tuesday. The children had a great time and were so excited to see the live performance.
PTFA Santa Dash
Thank you to all of the children for taking part in the PTFA Santa Dash.
Monday 16th December: Christingle
On Monday, we will be visiting church to celebrate the Christingle service, which will be led by Years 5 and 6. During the afternoon, we are going to reflect on the meaning of the Christingle and will make our own.
Please send your child to school with one orange for their Christingle (we will provide the other items).
Safeguarding - morning routine
If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door/ KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff, please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning.
If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe.
