Year 1 Friday Blog - 4.10.24
Date: 2nd Oct 2024 @ 3:28pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, our weekly spellings, reminders and lots more!
Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school.
Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key comprehension skills. If your child is struggling to read a word, encourage them to use their phonics fingers to segment and sound it out. Can they spot any digraphs? (2 letters, 1 sound). Once they have segmented the word, ask them to blend it together.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Phonics & Spellings
Everyone has been working super hard on their spellings and I would love to see how you learn your spellings at home. Please share any work / pictures / games the children do at home to practise their spellings. Emails can be sent to [email protected] |
Thank you to those who have shared pictures this week.
We would love to share even more next week. |
Please find below the spelling list for this week. An overview of the spellings for this half term can be found on our class page.
The spellings are linked to our phonics programme, Little Wandle. Please recap the graphemes, spellings and tricky words with the children. The children will have a spelling quiz each Thursday. They will not be asked to write the tricky words as these are used throughout our writing in the week.
Spellings can be practised in lots of different ways, an overview of some strategies has been shared on the blog. For additional practice, in the files to download section of our class page, there are example sentences for you to read and your child to write down. Remind them to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Our learning this week...
English - Harry the Happy Mouse
This week we have continued with our story 'Harry the Happy Mouse' We stepped into the role of the frog in the story. We wrote a speech bubble and a thank you note to the mouse for helping us get off the log. |
To celebrate National Poetry we performed 'Zany Zoo' by Matt Goodfellow. We then wrote our own poems called 'Funky Farm'. Take a look at our video on the school X feed. |
