Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!

Well done to all the children who took part in Sports Day, you were amazing!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and lots more. 

Thank you for your support with our new weekly blogs. It has been fantastic to hear the children talking about them in school this week. Every Friday the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Phonics - The children are confident in recognising their phase 3 and phase 5 sounds. Please encourage them to apply this knowledge when completing any writing activities at home. 

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below. In the 'files to download' section you will find an overview of spellings for this half term and spelling strategies to use at home. 

Homework folders do not need to be returned to school.

Move up morning

The children had a great time when they visited Year 2 this week.

*** On Monday, please can you send a clear plastic bottle with a lid into school with your child. We will be using these for one of our English lessons. ***

Our learning this week in Year 1

English

The children have been working super hard in producing their own wishing tale stories. We have started our new model text, instruction writing.

Maths

We have looked into capacity this week. We have also started fractions (halving).

Geography

This week, we have been learning about the human and physical features in the countryside.

Science

We have looked at the different types of plants and the similarities and differences between these.
