Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!
Please see the class page for the currciulum overview and the updated spelling lists.
English
We have started our adventure on the 'Hundred Decker Bus'
We wrote about what we saw on the bus before retelling the start of the story.
Maths
This week has been all about the days of the week and the months of the year.
RE
In RE we have continued to learn about the story of Creation. We drew our favourite part and told our partner why we made that decision.
History
This week we researched the history of flight. We loved seeing all the first flying machines.
Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key comprehension skills. If your child is struggling to read a word, encourage them to use their phonics fingers to segment and sound it out. Can they spot any digraphs? (2 letters, 1 sound). Once they have segmented the word, ask them to blend it together.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings
To help practise their weekly spellings, the children now have access to spelling frame. This is an online platform used throughout school with interactive games and spellings tests for the children to use. I am able to see how the children are performing throughout the week and there is a leader board to keep track of their points. Please click on the image below for a shortcut to Spelling Frame.
We will continue to quiz the children each Thursday.
Well done to all the children on their spellings this week. You were amazing!
