Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and lots more.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Phonics - Please spend time reading the real and nonsense words in the 'files to download' section.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below. In the 'files to download' section you will find an overview of spellings for this half term and spelling strategies to use at home.

Homework folders do not need to be returned to school.

Our learning this week in Year 1

English

In English this week we have started our new topic about pirates. We have been using adjectives and precise nouns to create our own pirate characters.

Maths

In Maths we have been working hard on partitioning 2 digit numbers.

Please encourage your children to practise writing their numbers at home, as we often see numbers being reversed in work.

History

On Thursday we celebrated the anniversary of D-Day by singing songs and writing quality sentences about pictures from that day.

Have a look at our gallery to see the fun we had on our trip to The Fireground and our visit from the police.

Have a fantastic weekend!
