Year 2 End of Year Blog!

Date: 18th Jul 2024 @ 5:29pm

Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!

Summer Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please continue to read with your child over the summer and remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Times tables - I encourage everyone to continue practising times tables over the summer as knowing all of the times tables is incredibly helpful in Maths and continuing to practise will mean they remain in your minds ready for Year 3.

Courageous Advocacy

Calling all
'Agents of Change!'

We are very excited to be introducing Courageous Advocacy into our curriculum from September. This supports the ethos and values of our School and the work we already do in learning about people from different backgrounds and environments. However, it is not just about fundraising but projects that can effect change.

What Is Courageous Advocacy?
The act of speaking out against an issue of injustice, often on behalf of someone who cannot be heard.
Must be informed about an issue and move beyond knowing to saying and doing.
It takes courage!

Over the Summer, we would like you to start thinking about what you are passionate about. What could we do as a project in School? In September our class worship will be used to share and discuss these ideas that then can be presented to the rest of the School.

A big shout out to Niah Shaw in Year 2 who has already brought in her ideas about helping animals!
Well done!

Summer library challenge

The challenge is for children to read five books during the summer, and complete a number of challenges. By completing these challenges they'll unlock prizes along the way as well as the chance to be entered into a prize draw for a free Lego kit. All participating children will be able to visit one of Lancashire's museums for free with an adult, as well as regular activities taking place in all libraries in Lancashire. The challenge launched on Saturday 6th July and runs until the end of September. Please go to see Kath at Euxton library if you would like to register and take part.
