Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame. Red homework books do not need to be returned to school.

Times table / Division facts - This week the children need to focus on ÷ 5 division facts. Please continue to practise 2, 5 and 10 times tables and division facts on TT Rock Stars.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible.

An overview for spellings and timestables can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Our learning this week in Year 2

English

This week in English we have been writing recounts about the school holidays and our visit from the police. We are trying hard to expand our sentences with conjunctions and adjectives.

Maths

Maths this week has been all about time. We have been consolidating our learning of o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to before learning the new times of 5 past, 10 past, 20 past and 25 past. Telling the time is often quite tricky so this is an excellent skill to practise at home.

History

On Thursday we celebrated D-Day by singing songs and learning how to use morse code. We read secret messages and wrote our own.

Have a fantastic weekend!
