Year 2 Friday Blog- 1.11.24
Date: 22nd Oct 2024 @ 9:37am
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 7th November (see the files section on our Year 2 class page / bottom of this blog for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 2). Children learn spellings of words through use of a variety of strategies. Your child might prefer to write them down, say them aloud to an adult or use a combination of methods.

Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will focus on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in Year 2. Our first times times tables quiz will be on Thursday 14th November. The children will be tested on the 2x tables (in order), up to 12 x 2.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.

Our learning this week in Year 2
English
This week in English lessons, we have been writing diary entries in character, focusing on sentence structure and punctuation. We have also made predictions as to what our new English topic for this half term will be. All will be revealed next week!
Maths
In maths lessons this week, we have been identifying and making 3D shapes. We have also started our new topic of Counting, Multiplication and Sorting.
Multi - Faith Week
We have enjoyed our Multi- Faith week in Year 2. Our focus has been on Buddhism. Having introduced a Buddhist head as an artefact to study, we then generated big questions about the Buddhist faith. The children were very enthusiastic to learn all about Buddha, having handled and made observations about the Buddha head at the start of the week.
We then went on to study Buddhist temples and we thought about the reasons why people worship.
During our Multi- Faith week, the children throughly enjoyed making a Dharma Wheel and learned all about the eightfold path that it represents.
Have a look at our gallery to see some of the photographs taken throughout the week in Year 2.
Have a fantastic weekend!
