Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Our learning this week in Year 2

English

Throughout the week, we have been learning how to identify, generate and effectively use noun phrases for description (e.g. the blue butterfly with shimmering wings). We have been using these in our narrative accounts based on The Owl and the Pussy-cat poem. Having focused on the story middle and endings this week, we then went on to edit and improve our work by re-reading our work.

Maths

In our maths lessons this week we have been focusing on addition and subtraction methods. As well as learning about subtraction with exchange using jottings, we have also been using bar models to solve a variety of addition and subtraction problems.

RE

Having watched a video about the events of Holy Week and Easter, we went on to further develop our understanding of how the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection fits into God’s Big story. We also looked at why Easter is the most important festival in the Christian Calendar. Analysing the Christian symbols of Easter helped us to answer this question and to understand the deeper meaning of the Easter story.

PE

This half term, we are focusing on gymnastics and athletic activities. In our gymnastics lesson this week we focused on travelling on our hands and feet, and then looked at how to take that into a balance. We also explored balancing on large body parts and decided what a good balance should have. Finally, we took our travelling and balances onto apparatus, showing our character value of concentration. Some super discussion points were made by the children as to why we need to concentrate when performing a balance.

Reading - Please read every night. Answer a selection of questions about the thoughts, feelings and actions of any of the characters in your reading book.

Have a try at answering the following inference questions. Remember to use your detective skills.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame. Our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 20th March.

Choose five or more spellings and write a sentence for each of the words. Remember to think it, say, write it and then check for full stops and capital letters.
