Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below. Log in details for Spelling Frame or TT Rock Stars can be found on the inside cover of your child's Reading Record book.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.

Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 21st November (see the files section on our Year 2 class page for the spelling/times tables overview for Autumn Term 2). Children learn spellings of words through use of a variety of strategies. Your child might prefer to write them down, say them aloud to an adult or use a combination of methods.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill. On November 21st, the children will be tested on the 2x tables (in order).

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.

Our learning this week in Year 2

English

This week in English, we have been innovating the poem introduced last week (Scissors by Allan Ahlberg). We changed the subject from pairs of scissors to many other objects that go missing in classrooms throughout the land! The children came up with glue sticks, pencils, base ten equipment, purple pen lids and a number of other items!

Maths

In maths lessons this week, we have been continuing to learn about statistics. The children have been learning how to interpret simple tables, block graphs and pictograms. They have also been learning about tally charts. They have been interpreting tally charts, as well as collecting data and using tally charts to record such data.

Computing

As part of our work on Project Evolve, the children answered questions about online bullying last week and this helped me to create a programme of study related to online bullying that is specifically tailored to the children's needs and understanding. As a result, this week we have learned about how people may bully others and how bullying can make someone feel. This was also linked to anti-bullying week.

Odd Socks Day

We all enjoyed wearing our odd socks to mark anti-bullying week and learned a lot about choosing respect.

Children In Need

We all had a great time taking part in our sporty day inspired by the Gladiators! Many thanks for the kind donations for the Children in Need charity.

Next Week:

School Council Elections

Friday 22nd November will be our school council elections in school as part of parliament week. Any children who wish to run should give their name to their teacher on Monday 18th November, so that ballot papers can be prepared. They will then give a speech to their class on Friday 22nd November about why they would like to be considered as a class representative. Voting will take place on the Friday morning and the children with the most votes will be presented with their badges in worship the following week. Please note there will be no celebration worship on Friday 22nd November as the hall will be set up as a polling station.

Have a look at our gallery to see some of the photographs taken in our computing sessions.

Have a fantastic weekend!
