Music
OurMusicCurriculum |
As one of the most creative art forms, music is a unique and universal method of communication which enriches children’s lives. The benefits of music education are manifold: as well as developing talent and inspiring a love and appreciation of music, it is a tool for personal expression.
We provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music. In Key Stage Two our music curriculum is taught by a specialist music teacher and all children are given the opportunity to learn an instrument.
Musical Appreciation
We want to encourage a life-long love of music and aim to develop children’s understanding and appreciation of a range of music from different traditions and eras. Each year group has half-termly themes, based on either musical eras, traditions, genres or the topic of the music itself; for example in their Minibeasts topic, Reception listen to Flight of The Bumble Bee by Rimsky-Korsakov.
Progression and Key Knowledge in Music
Please click on the link below to view our progression map and the key knowledge expected at the end of each year group. Each year group also has several core songs which they learn over the course of the year. Alongside our excellent music provision, this ensures that children’s singing skills develop in line with our progression map.
