Year 2 Friday Blog- 18.10.24
Date: 13th Oct 2024 @ 5:17pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spelling Notice Please note that our next spelling quiz will be on Thursday 7th November (the second week back). This will give your child a chance to have a break over the half term holiday. If your child wishes to revisit the spellings from this term, the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1 can be found in the Files to Download section on the Y2 class page. A new spelling overview sheet for Autumn Term 2 will be posted on the blog on Friday 1st November.
Times Tables Notice Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website if your child wishes to practise the times tables over the half term period. Weekly times tables quiz dates will be added to the spelling overview sheet for Autumn Term 2.
Our learning this week in Year 2
Fire Brigade Visit
The Fire Brigade visited Year 2 on Tuesday. The children learned all about fire safety and had a lot of fun in the process. The main message was to STOP, DROP AND ROLL in the event of clothing catching fire.
English
We have been using adjectives to write a description of Peter Rabbit. Having sorted a list of adjectives into different groups ( personality, appearance, family, not about Peter), the children then followed our model to produce some excellent descriptions of their own.
Maths
In maths lessons this week, we have been completing learning checks to ensure that the children have undertood and retained all of the maths concepts introduced throughout the half term period. We have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes as part of our geometry unit. After the half term holiday, the children will be identifying and naming 3D solids.
Science
In science lessons this week, we have been thinking about the Eatwell Guide and looking at the importance of eating the right amounts of the different types of food (a balanced diet).
Open Morning
It was lovely to welcome lots of visitors to our school on Wednesday morning. The Year 2 children were very excited to spot some familiar faces!
