Year 2 Friday Blog - 20.9.24
Date: 17th Sep 2024 @ 6:40pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 26th September (see the files section on our Year 2 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1). Children learn spellings of words through use of a variety of strategies. Your child might prefer to write them down, say them aloud to an adult or use a combination of methods.
|
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will focus on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in Year 2. Weekly times tables quizzes will not be given in Autumn Term 1.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
Our learning this week in Year 2
English
We have been recapping our knowledge and understanding of nouns and adjectives. The children have identified nouns and adjectives in our text, The True story of the Three Little Pigs, and have used them to write some super sentences of their own. We have also sequenced a narrative account, drawing a story map of the True Story of the Three Little Pigs to use as a guide when writing the story opening, middle and ending.
Maths
Within the topic of Place Value and Number, we have been learning about the terms greatest and least to compare two or more numbers. We have also been studying how to identify multiples of ten by their properties, making the numbers using base 10 and identifying them on a number line. During our maths lessons, we have been focusing on using the term rounding and have been learning that rounding is a way that we can estimate a value.
RE
Our topic this half term is The Bible. This week, we have been posing lots of big questions about the Bible , as well as answering lots of questions, such as: What do they look like? Are they all the same? How do we know they are special? Are some more special than others? Who uses a Bible? Why? When? Where do we find them? The questions and answers have prompted interesting discussion amongst the children and they have come up with some super ideas.
Friendly Reminder - P.E.
Year 2 P.E. lessons will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. P.E. kits are to be worn to school on Tuesdays and a full P.E. kit will need to be in school for the lesson each Friday. No earrings are to be worn to school on P.E. days for safety reasons. Thank you in advance.
Meet The Teacher
It was lovely to see lots of parents at the meeting on Wednesday morning. If you were unable to make it, please see the Files to Download section on the Year 2 class page to view the powerpoint information shared at the meeting.
Have a look at our gallery to see some of the photographs taken throughout the week in Year 2.
Have a fantastic weekend!
