Year 2 Friday Blog- 27.9.24
Date: 20th Sep 2024 @ 3:30pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 3rd October (see the files section on our Year 2 class page for the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1). Children learn spellings of words through use of a variety of strategies. Your child might prefer to write them down, say them aloud to an adult or use a combination of methods.

Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will focus on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in Year 2. Weekly times tables quizzes will not be given in Autumn Term 1.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings can be found at the bottom of the blog. Times Tables will be added in future terms.
Our learning this week in Year 2
English
Using the story maps produced last week, we have been focusing on retelling the True Story of the Three Little PIgs. The children have worked hard to produce their own opening, middle and ending, taking care to punctuate each sentence with a capital letter and full stop. They have also been taking on the role of a teacher and editing their work by re-reading their sentences and adding capital letters and full stops, where needed, with a purple pen.

Maths
In maths this week, we have been learing about measurement, mass and comparing values. We have been using the vocabulary longer and shorter in our lessons on length, as well as lighter and heavier in our lessons on mass. The children have used the balance scales to find the mass of a variety of objects in the classroom.
Computing
We have been working hard in our computing lessons this week. We are focusing on online safety this half term and the children have been learning how to search for information safely, using the purple mash programme. We have been thinking about the meaning of the following new vocabulary introduced during the lesson:
P.E. Reminder
Year 2 P.E. lessons will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. P.E. kits are to be worn to school on Tuesdays and a full P.E. kit will need to be in school for the lesson each Friday. No earrings are to be worn to school on P.E. days for safety reasons.

Have a fantastic weekend!
