Year 2 Friday Blog- 31.1.25
Date: 19th Jan 2025 @ 6:13pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
English
We have been focusing on the use of question and exclamation marks in our sentences,as well as thinking about the use of commas when using conjunctions at the start or middle of our sentences. Throughout the week, we have been thinking of ideas to create our own innovated version of Paddington in the Garden. The children drew a story map to sequence the set of events in the text. Time conjunctions (first, next, after that, finally) were added to the maps. Using their completed story maps, the children will write their narrative account next week.
Maths
In our maths lessons this week we have learning about money. We have been looking at given amounts and thinking about how we can make the same amounts using different coins to those shown. Using part-part-whole diagrams, we have also been working out missing parts and drawing coins to show the amounts. The children have all worked hard to calculate how much is left when given amounts are taken away from the original amount shown.
Example: Kim spends 25p. She had 85p to start with. How much does she have left?
The children would enjoy 'playing shop' at home using 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins.
RE
Continuing with the Bible story of The Ten Lepers, we have been taking on the role of the leper who returned to Jesus and have been writing thank you letters to Him.
Design and Technology
We have been learning all about sliders and levers in our DT lessons this half term. Using a pop-up book as a model to study, the children have thought about mechanisms and the following vocabulary was introduced;slider, lever, pivot, push, pull, curved and straight. We used lollipop sticks and given pictures to investigate how to make a slider.
