Year 3 Friday Blog- 12th July 2024

Date: 10th Jul 2024 @ 8:54pm

Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 3 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame or your homework book can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below. Please ask if your child requires a reminder of their log in details for Spelling Frame or TT Rock Stars.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame. Red homework books do not need to be returned to school.

Times table / Division facts - This week, the children need to focus on the related division facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. Please continue to practise the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables, as well as the related division facts, on TT Rock Stars.

Please note that our quiz will be on Wednesday 17th July.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.

An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Our learning this week in Year 3

English

This week, the children have been writing their own narrative accounts based on the Cliffhanger text. We have been focusing on the use of varied sentence structures and the children have been impressing me with their knowledge. We have also been focusing on many other areas that we have covered throughout the year, including the use of expanded noun phrases, paragraphs, adverbs and embedded clauses.

 Maths

We have been learning about 3D shapes this week. We have also been been drawing on our prior learning of 2D shapes to help us identify the shape of faces. The children were extremely good at identifying many of the 3D shapes presented and went on to count the number of edges, vertices and faces of the given shapes. We have also sorted a variety of 3D shapes using both Carroll and Venn diagrams.

PE

In our PE session this week, the children all enjoyed their dance lesson. They also enjoyed the last swimming session of the term on Monday. The children have all made super progress with their swimming and they were all very pleased to be able to end the term with a play session in the pool.

The Euxton Factor

Well done to all of the children who took part in the Euxton Factor auditions on Wednesday afternoon. The Year 3 team were so impressed with the acts and we are proud of the children for taking part. The rest of the class proved to be a fantastic audience and we all enjoyed an afternoon of super entertainment. The Euxton Factor will be held on Wednesday 17th July. As outlined in the newsletter, a  £1 donation to Rainbow Hub for a colourful non-uniform day would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
