Year 3 Friday Blog- 14th June 2024
Date: 12th Jun 2024 @ 7:58pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 3 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame. Red homework books do not need to be returned to school.
|
Times table / Division facts - This week, the children need to focus on the related division facts for the 3 and 4 times tables. Please continue to practise the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables, as well as the related division facts, on TT Rock Stars.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog.
Our learning this week in Year 3
English
This week, the children were excited to learn that their new class text is Cliffhanger by Jacqueline Wilson. We looked at the blurb and made predictions based on what we had read. We also used adjectives to describe the emotions experienced by the main character. Our grammar focus was using commas to separate clauses in complex sentences where the subordinate clause appears first.
Example Although it was raining, we decided not to take our coats.
Maths
We have been focusing on multiplication this week. Firstly, we looked at how to identify and describe the rule in a number sequence by calculating the step size between non-adjacent numbers in a sequence. We then learned how to use rounding to estimate the answer to a calculation, as well as how to use the grid method to solve multiplication problems. The children also worked hard to find missing numbers in given grid method calculations.
RE
Our topic this half term is Proverbs. During our RE lesson this week, we used the contents page in our Bibles to find the Book of Proverbs. The children then chose a proverb to study and were able to recognise how the proverbs linked to our Christian values, behaviour and attitudes.
Have a look at our gallery to see what we have been doing in RE this week.
Have a fantastic weekend!
