Year 3 Friday Blog- 21st June 2024
Date: 19th Jun 2024 @ 7:06pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 3 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading books, coloured book marks and reading records. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame. Red homework books do not need to be returned to school.
|
Times table / Division facts - This week, the children need to focus on the 8 times tables. Please continue to practise the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables, as well as the related division facts, on TT Rock Stars.
|
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog.
Our learning this week in Year 3
English
In English lessons this week, we have been thinking about adjectives that are suitable for describing emotions. We have drafted a diary account as if we are the main character, Tim, in the Cliffhanger text. We have drawn on our vocabulary bank of adjectives to describe the emotions experienced by Tim when he was forced to go on an activity holiday.
Maths
In maths lessons this week, we have been learning how to solve division problems through the use of repeated subtraction. Throughout the week, we have looked at how to use times tables facts to estimate answers to given problems, as well as how to solve division problems involving remainders. Please see the Times Tables Rockstars website to help your child to recall multiplication facts with speed and accuracy.
History
We had an amazing time at Bolton Museum on Tuesday. The children were very enthusiastic throughout the day and asked lots of interesting questions about Ancient Egypt. They particularly enjoyed dressing up in Egyptian-style clothing and seeing two real Egyptian mummies through the glass cases. The museum guide’s talk was fascinating and we all learned a great deal about the way of life in Ancient Egyptian times. We all loved the tour of the replica tomb, as well as taking part in a re-enactment of how people were mummified.
Have a look at our gallery to see what we have been doing in history this week.
Have a fantastic weekend!
