Year 4 Friday Blog - 12th July 2024
Date: 11th Jul 2024 @ 9:09pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - The children have now learned all of their Year 4 spelling rules and this week, recapped them in our spelling lessons. As next Thursday is our last day in school, there will be no spelling test and therefore no spellings to learn this week.
Times tables - As with the spellings, there will be no times table test next week. However, I encourage everyone to continue practising times tables both this week and over the summer. Knowing all of the times tables is incredibly helpful in Maths and continuing to practise will mean they remain in your minds ready for Year 5.
Our learning this week in Year 4
English
This week, we have been looking at debates and discussions. We began the week with some debates about our favourite books. We heard some excellent points as to why each book was the best and the class had a difficult job voting for a winner in each debate. We have now moved on to writing balanced discussions, and each child has chosen a question to write a discussion about. Having thought of arguments for and against each side of their question, the children will write their own balanced discussions next week.
Maths
This week, we have been learning about equivalent fractions. Every child has been an active learner during these lessons and can now confidently identify equivalent fractions and some equivalent decimals.
Geography
In Geography, we have been learning all about different energy sources. We have focused specifically on geothermal energy used in Iceland, learning how it works and why it is better for the planet. The class then predicted which energy spources they think will be used the most in the future and how this will impact us.
Euxton Factor
On Tuesday, we held our Euxton Factor auditions in class. We have so many talented children and it was lovely to see them performing for the rest of the class. From singing and dancing to playing instruments and even drawing, everyone who auditioned should be incredibly proud of themselves. A big congratulations to Neva, Olivia and Emilia who will all be performing for the rest of the school on Wednesday.
Dance Day
Thursday was our dance day and we had lots of fun making up moves for our names and learning a dance to a song from The Greatest Showman. Thank you to Miss Anna for teaching us all and making it so enjoyable!
