Year 4 Friday Blog - 14th June 2024

Date: 12th Jun 2024 @ 8:43am

Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.

Thank you for your support with our new weekly blogs. It has been fantastic to hear the children talking about them in school this week. Every Friday the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school.   Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame or your homework book can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below. Please ask if your child requires a reminder of their log in details for Spelling Frame or TT Rock Stars.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Spellings - This week, we are learning about unstressed vowels in our spelling lessons. Our spelling words to learn are listed below and these will be tested on Thursday. As homework, each child should log into SpellingFrame and complete this weeks test using the link below. Homework books can be used to practise spellings, but do not need to be returned to school.

Times tables - All children have now completed their MTC and we are so proud of how much they have all practised to earn their scores. As we come to the end of Year 4, we begin to look ahed to Year 5 and 6, where children will need to retain their times table knowledge and apply it in their maths. For this reason, we ask that every child continues to log in to TT RockStars each week. On Thursday, we will continue with our weekly times table tests and this week we will be testing the 10 times table.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible.

An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Our learning this week in Year 4

English

We have continued our story "Journey to Jo'burg" this week and we have built more of an understanding of some of the issues the children in the story faced. We identified lots of problems the children had to overcome and suggested ways they may be able to overcome them.

Maths

This week, we have been spending lots of time in class practising our times tables as each child completed their MTC. We are so proud of everyone for completing this check and showing perseverance to learn some of the trickier multiplication facts. Results will be available over the next few weeks and I will let each child know how they have got on once we have them. Results will also be included in your child's end of year report.

Geography

As part of our new Geography topic, comparing the North West of England with Iceland, we have been to visit Ewood Park in Blackburn this week. Whilst we were there, we found out about the club's history, why it is such an important part of the local area and how it runs now. There are lots of photos available in our gallery so please have a look to see what we got up to.

Have a look at our gallery to see what we have been doing on our Geography trip this week.

Have a fantastic weekend!
