Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Spellings - There will be no spelling homework this week as we are now in the MTC period. From next week, spelling homework will be on SpellingFrame each week. This can be accessed via our weekly blog along with a list of the weeks spellings. Homework books do not need to be retturned to school.

Times tables - This week the children are being asked to practise all times tables on TT RockStars. Children are encouraged to pay particular attention to any times tables they know they struggle with.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible.

An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Our learning this week in Year 4

English

We have started to read a new story this week - Journey to Jo'Burg. The children have enjoyed learning about the area the characters live in and the journeys they have to make, we came up with some excellent ideas about why this journey might have been difficult for the children in the story.

Maths

We have continued to work on our addition and subtraction this week. We have even moved on to solving problems with missing numbers. Everyone has shown great perseverance to have a go at these problems, even when they were tricky.

Geography

We have started a brand new Geography topic this week. Over this half term, we will be comparing the North West of England with Iceland. We started by comparing the locations of the two on a global scale. Have a look at our gallery to see the children using our atlases to locate the two places.
