Date: 18th Sep 2024 @ 8:43am

Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below.

Our learning this week in Year 5

The children have all continued to be enthusiastic in their learning this week.

                                                            PE

We have continued with our PE units and the children have been building on skills covered last week. As we had lovely weather on Tuesday we managed to take oour lesson outside. In cricket we have been working on bowling underarm effectively and progressed to working on the skills needed bowl overarm through targets

English

This week, the children have continued to find out more about the characters in our focus novel The lion the witch and the wardrobe. We have continued to read on and have met the White Witch who the chidren thought sounded very mean and strict. The chidren have compared the characters of Lucy and Mr Tumnus and analysed excerpts of the text discussing why the author's choice of language is significant.

 Maths

This week, we have completed the place value unit by describing and extending number sequences where step sizes were in decimals. We have made a start on the addition and subtraction unit which builds on place value by working on mental partitioning. The children have made a great start to this learning.

History

In history this week, we have looked at the importance and influence of the Greek Gods on the life of the Ancient Greek civilisation. The children  researched a variety of gods and goddesses to create profiles about them.

What a busy week!
