Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below, our spelling quiz when we return will take place on Thursday 13th March. Every Thursday, we will have a spelling quiz. The quiz will contain ten words from the spelling rule for that week plus two words from previous year groups. The overview for Spring Term 2 can be found on our class page.

Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will be revising all times tables in year 5 and further developing related division facts. Times tables test will take place each Friday.

Discovering Greece: Our Half-Term Spotlight π
This half-term, we're excited to learn all about our spotlight country Greece! Each week, we’ll share a fun fact about this amazing country. Children may want to get involved at home. If you find out something interesting about Greece, bring that information into school. πποΈ
Exploring the Amazon with The Explorer πΏπ
This week in English, the children have delved into the captivating world of Katherine Rundell's The Explorer. π¦β¨ The story sparks creativity, as the children craft their own interpretations of the vibrant Amazon rainforest.
Setting the Scene π³
Utilising vivid details from the text, the children have produced enchanting setting descriptions that transport us to the heart of the Amazon, showcasing their descriptive talents!
Character Exploration π¦πΎ
They also wrote character descriptions, focusing on Fred, one of the key characters. Their writings demonstrate a keen understanding of Fred’s traits and motivations, bringing his character to life.
Diaries πβοΈ
To step into Fred’s shoes, our learners crafted diary entries from his perspective, enhancing empathy and exploring his adventures and emotions.
This Week in Maths: Fractions to Geometry! πβ¨
This week, the children have pogressed further in maths! They have been adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, applying their skills to solve problems. πβοΈ
Next, we explored geometry! The children distinguished between regular and irregular polygons by reasoning about equal sides and angles. We also examined the properties of rectangles to find missing angles at a vertex when diagonals are drawn. πΊπ

This Week in RE: Reflecting on Easter πβοΈ
This week in Religious Education, the children reflected on some big questions about Jesus’ death and resurrection. π
They considered questions like, "Why do Christians celebrate Easter as a victory?" and "How is Jesus’ death and resurrection a victory?" Their thoughts helped everyone understand how Easter represents hope and new beginnings. π
Discovering Amazing Alaska and Fun Florida! πβοΈ
The children have started a new unit on Amazing Alaska and Fun Florida! ποΈποΈ
They explored the geographical positions of these two states, discussing where they are located on the globe and within the USA. Using maps, atlases, and interactive Digimaps, they discovered the unique features of both places.
Through fun activities, the children are learning about the world around them and appreciating its diversity. π
Science Week π§ͺπ
This week has been full of fun as we celebrated Science Week! π The children took part in a variety of exciting activities, exploring the fascinating world of science.
What a fantastic day we had on Tuesday as the children were captivated by the wonders of electricity during Aidrian Bowden's science show! π
From shocking demonstrations to enlightening experiments, Aidrian had the children jumping with joy. The children loved the interactive sessions where they got to participate in experiments about electricity! Their giggles and cheers made the hall come alive with excitement.
On Monday and Thursday the children engaged in discussions, and further investigations, our classrooms were buzzing with laughter and discovery. The children had a wonderful time learning!
Weeks like these not only make learning exciting but also inspire children to delve deeper into science. π

A Wonderful Wednesday of Shared Reading ππ
This Wednesday, Year R and Year 3 children joined together with us for a fun shared reading session! π
