Date: 9th Oct 2024 @ 12:59pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!
Hello Yellow
On World Mental Health Day, we wore yellow clothing and accessories to school, along with thousands of others across the UK. Thank you for helping us raise money for the Young Minds charity, showing young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.
We stand brighter, together.
Some wellbeing activities to try at home:
Please see the Doodle Boy doodle sheet and the Wellbeing Bingo activity sheet on the Files to Download section on our class page.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 19th September and our times tables quiz will be on Friday 20th September.
|
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will be revising all times tables in year 5 and further developing related division facts. Times tables test will take place each Friday.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
Our learning this week in Year 5
English
This week, the children have been identifying dialogue between different characters from our focus text The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. They have explored the rules when using dialogue and how to punctuate it correctly with inverted commas. They have also created their piece of dialogue for use in next week's learning.
Maths
This week, the children have completed a short statistics unit which involved reading and interpreting information in a range of tables with different contexts. The children answered complex questions about continuous data including the use of inference and identifying trends over time. We have also made a good start on the geometry unit where we began by identifying types of angles and measuring and drawing acute and obtuse angles.
History
In our History session this week, the children have explored who Alexander the Great was and how his Empire grew. They were able to take their own notes from our class discussion and use these in a piece of writing to show what they had found out. we have also looked at how the Ancient Greeks influenced the Western world and the leagacies they gave us.
Wellbeing week
We have had a great week of wellbeing! We have taken part in many activities throughout the week which have been thoroughly enjoyed. The children have enjoyed a yoga session, the climbing frame and ropes, and outdoor activities. The children have visited different classrooms in mixed classes to complete a range of activites.
Have a look at our gallery to see what we have been doing throughout wellbeing week.
