Year 5 Friday Blog 1.11.24
Date: 31st Oct 2024 @ 2:44pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Before half term, each class presented an idea that we could focus on as a school to show courageous advocacy. Our school council have decided that they would like to focus on the idea of saving water, which was presented by years 4, 5 and 6.
The first thing school council would like to do is to remind people to turn off the taps in school to save water. For this reason, they have decided to launch a poster competition.
Each child can design a poster to encourage everyone to turn off taps in school. School council will then choose a winning poster to put up next to each tap in school.
If you would like to take part in this competition, please give your poster to your teacher by Friday 8th November, and don’t forget to put your name on the back.
Thank you for taking part in our competition, we hope you enjoy making your posters.
School Council
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be every Thursday and our times tables quiz will be every Friday.
|
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will be revising all times tables in year 5 and further developing related division facts. Times tables test will take place each Friday.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
Our learning this week in Year 5
English
This week, the children have been looking at classic poerty using the poem 'The Listeners.' They have recorded their first impressions after hearing the poem for the first time and used evidence from the poem to suppport ideas that they had about the poem. The children have also taken part in their first Literacy Kicks session, this involved them becoming sports reporters for the session which they were very excited about.
Maths
This week, the children have completed the unit geometry and measures which has involved calculating the lengths of missing sides. They have then used these to calculate the perimeter of rectilinear shapes. They have made a start on the new unit multiplication and division.
RE - Islam
During our multi-faith week the children have completed lots of learning about the religion Islam. The children have been intrigued and eagar to find out about the many aspects of this religion. We have looked at the key beliefs of Islam and have made some camparisons to Christianity. The children have taken part in discussions where they applied and understood our British Values mutual Respect and Tolerance. It has been wonderful to see how well the children have engaged with this learning.
