Year 5 Friday Blog - 13.12.24
Date: 12th Dec 2024 @ 4:51pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please note that there will be no spelling quiz on Thursday 19th December.
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will be revising all times tables in year 5 and further developing related division facts. Times tables test will take place each Friday.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
Our learning this week in Year 5
English
A Fantastic Week in English! 🚀✨
This week in English has been all about learning and fun! 📚 ✍️ The children have been focusing on comprehension skills and revising important spelling, punctuation, and grammar rules we’ve covered this term.
Getting Creative with Science Fiction 🛸
We’ve also started to write our science fiction stories! The children are following their own ideas, inspired by the stories covered this half term. It's wonderful to see their imaginations shine as they create their own tales. 🌟
Maths
This Week in Maths: Learning About Time 🕒✨
This week in maths, we have been reviewing everything we have learned this term. 📚
We have also started a short topic: time! ⏰ The children have been reading, writing, and converting time between analogue and digital clocks, including the 12-hour and 24-hour formats. Learning to tell the time is an important skill that helps children in their daily lives.
RE
This week, the children have been learning about the incarnation in Religious Education. 📖✨ We explored a key big question: Was Jesus the Messiah? The children engaged in discussions and activities, helping them understand how Jesus fits into God’s big story.
A Magical Experience: Our Pantomime Trip to See Cinderella
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a wonderful trip to the theatre to watch Cinderella. 🎭✨
Their faces lit up as the show began, and it was fantastic to see them laughing and joining in! 🤗🌟
Experiences like this help our children to appreciate the arts and spark their creativity. 🏰
Well Done to Our Amazing Children at the PTFA Santa Dash! 🎅
This afternoon, our school came alive with festive cheer as children participated in the PTFA Santa Dash! 🌟 It was wonderful to see them running in their Christmas hats and outfits, spreading joy and excitement. 👏🎄✨
Monday 16th December: Christingle
On Monday, we will be visiting church to celebrate the Christingle service, which will be led by Years 5 and 6. During the afternoon, we are going to reflect on the meaning of the Christingle and will make our own.
