Year 5 Friday Blog - 20.12.24
Date: 18th Dec 2024 @ 8:41am
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will be revising all times tables in year 5 and further developing related division facts. Times tables test will take place each Friday.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.

Celebrating Creativity: Our Science Fiction Stories ππ
This week the children have just wrapped up their science fiction stories, and what better way to share their hard work than through a wonderful peer reading session with the Year 1 children.
The children read their stories to the younger children, who were eager listeners. The joy of storytelling brought everyone together and they enjoyed the experience and the joy of sharing stories

π Creative Crafts: Christmas Stockings in Design Technology! π
In our Design Technology lessons, the children have been hard at work, bringing their festive spirit to life by creating their own Christmas stockings! πβ¨
Not only did they have the opportunity to design their stockings, but they also learned the skill of sewing, specifically the blanket stitch. 𧡠This newly acquired skill allowed them to add unique finishing touches to their designs, making each stocking truly one-of-a-kind.
From bright colours to fun patterns, it has been wonderful to see their ideas come to life. These stockings are not just for show; they represent their hard work and creativity.
We are proud of the children for embracing this project and showing their artistic flair.

Christingle
A Heartwarming Christingle Service π
This Monday, we were filled with joy as Year 5 and Year 6 took the lead in the beautiful Christingle service at church. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical! β¨
The children did a fantastic job explaining the meaning behind the Christingle, a symbol of hope and light during the darker months. Their heartfelt presentations and glowing orange creations illuminated the church, reminding us all of the importance of community and togetherness.
It was wonderful to see so many of you there, thank you for joining us to celebrate this meaningful tradition!

They enjoyed classic games like Pass the Parcel, where cheers erupted with each round. The suspense of Corners kept everyone on their toes, while Musical Statues brought out some silly poses!
A favourite was Pin the Nose on Rudolph – children showed off their aiming skills, all while sharing plenty of giggles. π¦
We also had a blast dancing, with everyone showcasing their best moves.

π Grandparents Coffee Morning βοΈβ¨
This Wednesday, we hosted our Grandparents Coffee Morning, a time for families to come together and celebrate the festive season!
Year 5 and Year 6 children entertained us with beautiful Christmas carols, including Midnight and Silent Night. Their singing filled the hall with joy and warmth, making it a memorable experience for all our grandparents.
With lovely conversations and the smell of fresh coffee in the air, it was heartwarming to see everyone connecting and sharing stories.
Thank you to everyone who joined us! π
