Date: 20th Mar 2025 @ 10:37pm
Dear parents
This week we have celebrated neurodiversity through developing our understanding of it and celebrating our differences.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below, our spelling quiz when we return will take place on Thursday 27th March. Every Thursday, we will have a spelling quiz. The quiz will contain ten words from the spelling rule for that week plus two words from previous year groups. The overview for Spring Term 2 can be found on our class page.

π Exciting Learning Adventures in English! πβ¨
This week in English, the children set their imaginations alight as they continued to explore the incredible world of *The Explorer* by Katherine Rundell! π₯ They dove headfirst into a captivating hot seating activity, taking on the roles of the explorer, ready to share their thrilling stories.
“I could have discovered engrossing secrets hidden beneath the jungle canopy,” exclaimed one intrepid explorer, embodying the spirit of adventure. The room buzzed with excitement as the children used modal verbs to justify their characters' decisions. “They must have faced daunting challenges in the treacherous Amazon!”
As they planned their narratives, the children demonstrated their ability to infer and debate points of view from the novel. “If they had trusted their instincts, they might have navigated the dangers threatening them,” showcasing their analytical thinking sparked by Katherine Rundell's vivid storytelling. π
As they prepare to weave their tales into a broader narrative, the creativity in the air is palpable! We can't wait to read their amazing stories which will transport us to lands of mystery and wonder, just like the adventures in *The Explorer*.
π This Week in Maths: Exploring Statistics! π
This week, the children have been busy in maths, diving into the world of statistics! π§ β¨ They’ve been solving problems involving comparison, sum, and difference while exploring different types of graphs, like line graphs. π
The children have created sorting diagrams to understand numbers and shapes better. They've been calculating the Mode and Range of sets of values and finding the median for both odd and even numbers! π²π’ They even used dice and counters to generate their values, making learning fun and practical!

Celebrating Victory Through Creative Expression in RE πβοΈ
This week in RE, we have delved deeper into the theme of victory during the Easter season. The children have been engaged in discussions, exploring the significance of both their personal experiences of triumph and the broader narrative of Jesus’ victory at Easter.
To reflect this enlightening journey, our students crafted acrostic poems that resonate with their understanding of victory. Each poem intertwines their personal reflections with the profound legacy of Easter, showcasing their creativity and grasp of this pivotal theme.
Here are some of the wonderful thoughts shared:
V: Victorious moments in our lives
I: Inspiring hope and faith anew
C: Challenges overcome with courage
T: Triumph not just for one, but for all
O: Overcoming struggles like Jesus did
R: Rising again in spirit and love
Y: Yearning to share our stories of grace
These poems not only allow our children to express their feelings creatively but also reinforce the important lessons of resilience and hope.
Exploring the Climates of Alaska and Florida
This week, the children investigated the climates of Alaska and Florida, and created informative posters to share their findings using their oracy skills. πβ¨
The Climates
Alaska has long, cold winters and short, mild summers, known for its tundra and subarctic regions. βοΈ
In contrast, Florida enjoys a warm, humid subtropical climate, with sunny weather all year round. π
Effects on Human Activities
Agriculture
In Alaska, the short growing season means farmers mostly grow hardy crops like potatoes and vegetables, often using greenhouses. π₯π₯
Florida is perfect for farming, producing crops like oranges and strawberries throughout the year. ππ
Settlement Patterns
In Alaska, people live mainly in coastal areas or along rivers to escape the extreme cold, creating small communities. ποΈ
Florida, on the other hand, has a mix of urban areas and lively cities, with many drawn to its warm beaches. ποΈ
The different climates of Alaska and Florida show how climate shapes where we live and how we farm.

Exploring Plant Growth π±β¨
This week in science, the children have delved into the fascinating world of botany using a concept cartoon to spark lively discussions on how plants grow. πΏπ¬
The children put their scientific skills to the test by taking cuttings from various plants, embarking on a hands-on experiment to see if we can grow new plants from these cuttings and witness the miracle of root development. It’s great to see their eyes light up with curiosity as they explore the concept of propagation! π±π
Through teamwork and creativity, the children have shared ideas, asked questions, and engaged in thoughtful dialogue. These activities not only deepen their understanding of plant life but also enhance critical thinking and collaboration skills. πΌπΏ
