Year 6 Blog-Friday 13th December
Date: 22nd Oct 2024 @ 1:15pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 6 Friday blog.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
This week we have learnt about the meaning of The Transfiguration and how this influences Christians to transform the lives of others. I would like to give Year 6 a Christmas gift of a donation to a charity this Christmas, which will positively transform another person's life. We have been researching ideas together and will settle on one next week.
Some of the children have asked if they could bring their own donation, to add to mine. They are more than welcome but equally there is no pressure.
Year 6 Spelling Frame and TTRS Champions
Homework
Reading -Thank you to all children who have handed their books in by Thursday. Unfortunately, there are still a few who are not handing their books in on time. Please remind your child to complete their comprehension task and bring it to school by Thursday morning at the latest.
This week they need to complete Set B Test 6.
Spellings -From today (Friday 13th December), we are going to spend time revising all of our spelling rules for this term. I have attached the Spelling Overview to this blog, so that the children can practise these rules and spellings. Please also continue to access Spelling Frame.
Maths: For homework, I would like the children to complete the worksheet about dividing fractions by an integer (a whole number). There is a modelled example to support them. Children should also access TTRS throughout the week so that they are achieveing automacity in their tables knowledge.
Our learning this week in Year 6
English
'One might be under the impression that gardens lend themselves easily as setting for novels, but it’s more than that-in fact novels and gardens are born of the same process. To write story is to sow a seed.'-Michel Foucault
This week we looked at an interesting quote which was found at the front of a book we will be studying. We had lots of meaningful discussion about it. Next week we are going to dive into a graphic novel.
Maths
We have continued our understanding about dividing fractions. We have also completed a full set of SATs papers. This will be sent home next week.
RE
We have immersed ourselves in our RE topic this, which is all about Incarnation. We have discussed what life was like in Judea before the arrival of Jesus and what kind of leader the people may have wanted. We have studied prophecies from Isaiah and Micah which made predictions about what Jesus would be like. We studied the transfiguration through scripture and artwork. Finally, we looked at what it means to transform the lives as others and how Christians seek to transform lives through their acts.
