Year 6 Blog-Friday 20th December
Date: 22nd Oct 2024 @ 1:20pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 6 Friday blog.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Thank you so much for all of the gifts from the children! I chose to give the children a gift to a charity of their choosing. I have donated to Action for Children and also Shelter (my donations were topped up by some from the children). Please enjoy the final blog of 2024 and I hope you have a happy, restful and peaceful Christmas. We are looking forward to seeing all the children again in the new year!
Homework
Reading -Please enjoy reading lots!
Spellings -We have worked hard on spelling during Autumn term. I am not setting any specific spelling homework, however, please continue to access Spelling Frame and to practise your spellings over the holiday.
Maths: Please spend time learning your maths facts and accessing TTRS-don't get rusty!
Our learning this week in Year 6
English
We looked at the graphic novel of Tom's Midnight Garden and used the pictures to understand the movement of a person's body as their mood changes. We then took the dialogue from the novel and inserted our own descriptions. This creates dialogue to move the action forward, a complicated skill we learn in Year 6. The children took to it really well and produced some lovely pieces of work.
Maths
In Maths we have now learnt and are beginning to master the four operations of fractions. Timetable knowledge is absolutely critical to mastering this skill so please do keep practising.
Design & Technology
The children have designed, planned and made the most amazing bomb shelters. They have worked on Tinker CAD, created mood boards and researched current designs. We used the plans of caravans to take inspriation for our own plans. Take a look at the gallery to see their outcomes.
