Year 6 Blog-Friday 24th January
Date: 3rd Jan 2025 @ 6:58am
Dear parents,
Thank you for attending our SATS information evening on Monday, which I hope you found useful. I have attached the powerpoint and handout to this blog.
Spelling Frame and TTRS Champions
Maths
In maths we have been finding the percentage of an amount; to help with this we have been memorising some fraction-percentage equivalents by creating our own games! Please see a song below to help memorise these-it is very important that all the children know these facts.
Tricks to remember spellings
Please watch the clip below to gain some top tips on strategies for tricky spellings. From next week, we will have more spelling tests throughout the week to check we understand our spelling patterns.
Reading -Thank you to all children who have handed their books in by Thursday, this is valuable practise in preparation for the SATS reading paper.
This week they need to complete Set C Test 3.
Spellings -From today (Friday 24th), we will look at a new set of homophones. Please see below for a selection of spellings and children can access their latest test on Spelling Frame.
Maths
Complete the worksheet on multiplying decimals. There is an additional copy attached to this blog. Please also learn the fraction decimal equivalents, which can be found on your maths facts sheet. These facts are as important as timestable knowledge, so please practise them regularly.
Our learning this week in Year 6
English
Things took a dramatic turn this week, as we put the main character from Holes-Stanley Yelnats-on the stand. We have been using the subjunctive form and formal speech to begin our courtroom debate.
Maths
We have looked at the benefits of converting fractions into decimals and how this can help us solve problems in different contexts. Using this knowledge, the children can find percentages of amounts.
RE
This week we studied and discussed elements of the stained glass picture shown below. The class identified many features which they recognised from The Last Supper, but they went further than that by interpreting many aspects of symbolism. Next, we used our school bibles to retrieve scripture references. Take a look at the blog for some pictures.
Science
We had a good time looking at dinosaur fossils this week; our focus is to understand how the fossil record provides us with clues to our past. It was fascinating to discover that there is a great gap between the existence of the stegosaurus and the t-rex than the t-rex and the invention of the smartphone!
