Year 6 Blog-Friday 6th December
Date: 22nd Oct 2024 @ 1:12pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 6 Friday blog.
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Reminder that this Friday is our Wow day and children are asked to come into school dressed as their version of a World War 2 child. We are looking forward to having an off-timetable day where we will consolidate our learning about 'A Child's War.'
Spelling Frame and TTRS Competition
Well done to this week's prize winners who have earned themselves raffle tickets for their efforts on TTRS and Spelling Frame. Well done also to Ezra for achieving your 'Gone Green' certificate on TTRS this week!
Homework
Reading -Thank you to all children who have handed their books in by Thursday. Unfortunately, there are still a few who are not handing their books in on time. Please remind your child to complete their comprehension task and bring it to school by Thursday morning at the latest.
This week they need to complete Set B Test 5.
Spellings -From today (Friday 6th December), we will look at the cial/tial spelling rule. Below is a list of sentence attached with these homophones included. There is a video attached to this blog which explains the rule. Please see below for a selection of spellings and children can access their latest test on Spelling Frame. I have also included a video to clarify the there/their/they're homophone, which can be a common error.
Maths: There is no homework sheet this week. However, I would like the children to show choose at least one of the fractions and methods and 'show-off' their knowledge to you!
Our learning this week in Year 6
English
The class have looked at Tom's Midnight Garden. This wonderfully descriptive narrative have provided the basis for their own descriptive writing.
Maths
This children have continued to work on fractions this week and it is lovely to see all 4 operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) now in use. We will keep practising these methods until they are embedded.
PE
I was delighted to watch a set of excellent gymnastics routines on Friday!
