Year 6 Blog-Friday 7th February

Date: 3rd Jan 2025 @ 7:10am

Dear parents,

points 5.2.25.JPG

Our spelling rule this week is silent letters; the list can be found below.  As silent letters are such a quirk of our language, I thought I would include this clip below; enjoy!

Homework this week will be on SATS Bootcamp.  The children's log-in information can be found in their Reading Records.  Please ensure you try to log in over the weekend, so that there is time to iron-out any difficulties, should they arise.  Scroll further down for spellings.

English

This week the children worked extremely hard on their own narratives, which are based on Holes.  It has been a joy to watch them so absorbed in their writing and every day we celebrate reading our favourite bits.  I can't wait to read the finished products and, using pupil voice, the class have voted for individual verbal feedback from me on their stories which is a celebration of their effort and the opportunity to set next steps.  This will take place next week.

Maths

We have looked a metric measurements and how they are used in a variety of contexts.  After finding this challenging, we seem to be getting the hang of it.  Please take a look at our working wall to help you with your homework.  Our stem sentence to remember how to coverrt is:  'The conversion is (10, 100, 1000) and I need to (multiply/divide).

Science

This week we looked at the changing population of moths and used our key words: survive, reproduce, offspring.  We simulated how rapidly the population of species can change by completing a practical game about moth species.

RE

We have deepened our understanding of different Christian beliefs surrounding The Eucharist.  The children have taken this understanding and, in a return to the original stained glass window we observed, are creating their own stained glass windows which depict The Eucharist.

Have a fantastic weekend!
