Dear Parents,

Looking ahead to SATS

As Easter has fallen late this year, it does mean that SATS will be around the corner once we begin the summer term.  We will be back for three weeks and then SATS will begin on the week commencing Monday 12th May.

Reading homework

All children have taken home a copy of the book:  The Giant's Necklace.  Please ensure they read this book over the Easter break as it will form the basis of our next writing unit.

SATS Bootcamp Homework

I have set Easter homework as it is important to keep the skills fresh.  Please complete what is set and complete more, if you wish.  But don't forget to have a rest too!

Maths:  Arithmetic Test 6 & 7

Reading:  Reading Test 7 & 8

Grammar:  SPAG Short Answers Test 5 & 6

Spellings:  I have attached our spelling overview once again so that the class can practise all spellings.  Please remember to keep using Spelling Frame aswell.

Our learning this week in Year 6

Thank you for our contributions about Slovakia!  You can research anything that interests you; including footballers, food or fashion.  Let's have the best Country noticeboard in Key Stage 2!

English

Following last week's Laby MacBeth writing, we have transferred the skills over into our latest piece of independent writing.  We have made great use of drama and our playscripts to 'try out' different pieces of speech.  Using a strong story structure, we have then created a piece of writing in which one of the witches convinces MacBeth to kill King Duncan!

Maths

This week we have begun our maths revision activities.  This inovles a combination of arithmetic tests, paired reasoning papers and re-cap question on LBQ.  The class are working extremely hard and gaining confidence with each week that passes.  I am very proud of them.

RE

We have continued to look at the Christian idea of salvation and Christian viewpoints surrounding death and everlasting life. We have explored this theme through scripture and music and it has been interesting to hear the children's thoughts, ideas and interpretations.

Geography

For our final lesson of the topic, we have looked thought about all our new knowledge about rivers and used it to make deicisions about the best ways to protect them.  Thinking about our Geography learning about Buckshaw village, we have conisdered the advantages and disadvantages of building new houses upon flood plains.

Have a wonderful and restful Easter break!
