Year 6 Friday Blog - 28th June 2024
Date: 27th Jun 2024 @ 6:15pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 6 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Thank you for your support with our new weekly blogs. It has been fantastic to hear the children talking about them in school this week. Every Friday the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame or your homework book can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below. Please ask if your child requires a reminder of their log in details for Spelling Frame or TT Rock Stars
Homework
Homework for Summer 2-As we enter our final half term of Year 6, I have taken the opportunity to create a set of 4 pieces of homework, each feeding directly into our learning in the classroom. I have decided to give out these 4 mini-projects altogether so that the children can get to work on what inspires them, but please do take note of the deadlines. It is vitally important that the children bring their completed work to school on time as it will be used during their lessons. You will find the homework document below.
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please ensure your child is still reading every night. Our libary day is Monday, when the class are given the opportunity to change their books. We also have plenty of books from our class library to choose from.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below.
suggest, symbol, system, temperature, thorough, twelfth, variety, vegetable, vehicle, yacht
Times table / Division facts - Please keep these sharp.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible.
Our learning this week in Year 6
Maths
In Maths we have moved onto a new project which is all about booking Mrs MacDonald a lovely camping holiday in France! This is quite challenging as the children have to consider climate (looking at graphs), mileage, travel times and exchange rates. I am looking forward to hearing their proposals next week!
English
Shakespeare Rocks! was a huge success. All the children performed so well across the week. It was a joy to see their smiles, pride and to hear lots of laughs from the audience. We also spent time on our class speech for the leavers' service next week.
PSHE
We have spent time looking at water safety this week, following our 1Decision programme of study. We have considered the ways in which we must keep ourselves safe and the dangers of open water.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
EuXton factor auditions are being held in the classroom on Monday.
Leavers' Service Tuesday 9th July 2pm in church: children are to wear school uniform. Year 6 parents are welcome and Miss Lewis will hand-out the bibles.
PE day will be THURSDAY not Tuesday, as we enjoy our Groove day where we will have a dance session.
