Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class.

Spellings

Thank you for all of your support with spellings this half term. Practising at home provides the children with lots of opportunities to apply their phonic knowledge.

Reading

Reading is such an important skill for our children to master. It helps to unlock their learning across the whole of the curriculum.

Please read with your children every night (where possible) and write a comment in their reading record.

BOOK REVIEW

I look forward to reading the children's book reivews in their reading records when we return after half term.

Maths

This week we have been recapping our learning from the half term and starting to think about mass. We used balance scales to decide which objects were heavier, lighter or equal.

English

In English we have concentrated on our reading skills. We have been reading short pieces of text and answering questions about them.

Geography

This week our learning has been all about the world. We know that Earth is made up of land and water. The land is split into seven continents and the water is split into five oceans. The world map jigsaw has been popular with the children all week!

To help learn the name of the continents we have been singing this song.

Open Morning

It was lovely to welcome lots of visitors to our school on Wednesday morning. The Year 1 children were very excited to spot some familiar faces and share our learning with them.

Have a lovely half term break. See you all on Monday 28th October.
