Dear Parents,
Welcome to our first class blog of 2025!
We have settled back into school routines really well and have started our new topic of Winter. Please find the topic overview on our Reception Class Page. Our story this week was 'Bears Winter House' we talked about why animals hibernate and the season of Winter.
This weeks lollystick challenges:
Our lollystick challenges have included a Winter Walk using our senses, making snowmen, applying our phase 2 phonic knowledge to write words linked to winter and an experiment about hibernating bears.

Phonics Homework
Please find the Phase 3 weekly sheets for this half term in the files section at the bottom of this blog. We have begun week 1 Spring 1 in class this week. Use the sheet however it works for you. Some people may want to print it out or just use the information to say the phoneme, write the grapheme and play games thinking about things that start with that sound.
We are noticing some children are struggling to identify tricky words. These are words that have a 'tricky' part that makes it unable to be sounded out. These words are included on the sheets.
Show and Tell
Thankyou for your continued support with this. Next week we would like the children to bring something in to share with the class from the Home Learning Challenge sheet in the files section at the bottom of this Blog.
As always they can bring something in or send a photo via Seesaw.
Reading Books
Please ensure they are sent in every day as we do have reading helpers who can also listen to child in School. As previously mentioned we will change these books every Tuesday and Thursday if you have signed the reading record book to say they have read. The ideal is a little time spent every night looking at the book together and enjoying it!
Library Books
Library books will be coming home tonight.
Please return by Wednesday each week ready to be changed on Friday.
Reminders
- Please make sure hair is tied up for PE (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
- Please help your child to practise zipping up their own coat, now the weather is getting colder and wetter.
- Please ensure all your child's clothes are named. Could you also check that you haven't ended up with anybody elses clothes as we still have a couple of cardigans missing!
- If your child needs to use lip balm could you please send it in in a named bag for the teachers to look after and oversee them putting it on.
Date for your diary!
