Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 3:57pm
Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 19th September and our times tables quiz will be on Friday 20th September.
|
Times tables - Please use the Times Tables Rock Stars website to practise the times tables. We will be revising all times tables in year 5 and further developing related division facts. Times tables test will take place each Friday.
I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.
Our learning this week in Year 5
PE
The children have built on last week’s learning bowling overarm from a stationary position or a short run up. They have then thought as a batter which is the best position to stand in, which space is best to strike the ball into and how to score the most runs giving reasons for their thinking. They also had to consider being the fielder and how best to cover the space.
English
This week, the children have been researching mythical creatures in order to write a non-chronological report. They have also explored a piece of text, identifying aspects of descriptive language which helps to bring characters to life.
Maths
This week, the children have continued with the addition and subtraction unit. We have been looking at various methods and choosing the most efficient one to complete the calculation.
Science
In our Science session this week, the children have used their table of results to show their findings from last week’s investigation on a graph.
Computing
This week, the children have been thinking critically about the information that they share online, both about themselves and others. We discussed knowing who to tell if they are upset by something that happens online. Afterwards the children designed a comic strip to illustrate this.
Have a fantastic weekend!
